NIRMA Scholarship
Scholarship Award: $1000 PLUS free registration for the 2025 Annual NIRMA Symposium (held in St. Augustine, FL July 28-30, 2025), free stay at the conference center, and up-to $400 travel reimbursement.
About NIRMA
The Nuclear Information and Records Management Association (NIRMA) is a not-for-profit 501(c)6 corporation governed by a Board of Directors and has members from the United States and International communities. Since 1976, NIRMA is the nuclear industry’s educational provider for information management. NIRMA is uniquely qualified to provide guidance to commercial entities and government agencies in the areas of information and process management, aligned with regulatory compliance.
VISION: To serve the global nuclear community by providing educational and technical guidance for information and process management professionals.
MISSION: To educate nuclear and associated industries, agencies, and regulators in the development, implementation, and administration of information and process management best practices and technologies.

SYMPOSIUM: NIRMA hosts the Annual Nuclear Information Management Symposium. This is a three-day symposium that covers a large variety of nuclear records and information topics including emerging challenges, best practices, case studies, and more. It is attended by records and information professionals from regulatory bodies, contractors, and nuclear power station owner/operators.
About the NIRMA Scholarship
SCHOLARSHIP MISSION:
To spread awareness of Nuclear Records and Information Management (RIM) as a career path to draw talent toward the nuclear industry with a sustainable scholarship that can be offered annually.
AWARD AMOUNT:
$1000 to be awarded to the winner. Additionally, the winner will be invited to the NIRMA Symposium (held in St. Augustine, FL July 28-30, 2025) as a guest. If the winner agrees to attend the symposium, registration fee will be waived and the winner will become a NIRMA member for one year, with all the benefits and privileges of a member recognized*.
With attendance at the symposium, the winner will receive a complimentary room at the resort. To assist with transportation costs, the winner may receive up-to $400 reimbursement to travel expenses at the discretion of NIRMA.
NOTICE TO APPLICANTS:
By applying for this scholarship, you are agreeing that if selected as the winner:
• Your name can be published/announced by NIRMA as the scholarship winner.
• Your essay can be published by NIRMA at NIRMA’s discretion, giving you credit as the author. This does not preclude you from publishing your essay in other publications outside of NIRMA.
• You will answer interview questions about yourself (with a focus on your interest in records and information management, the nuclear industry, and future career goals) to be used by NIRMA as an article in NIRMA magazine and/or on NIRMA’s website.
SELECTION PROCESS:
One winner will be selected per scholarship cycle. The applicants will be anonymous to the essay graders.
Applicants will be selected based on:
• Submitting all materials on time.
• Eligibility.
• Essay content and adhering to the essay criteria listed below.
NOTIFICATION: The award winner will be notified via email and they have seven (7) calendar days to acknowledge and accept the award.
Winners will be notified in May. If no acknowledgement is received by NIRMA, the runner-up will be offered the award. All non-winners will be notified via email as well.
NIRMA will publish the name of the winner in communications to members including in NIRMA Magazine.
The winner will be celebrated at the NIRMA Symposium (held in St. Augustine, FL July 28-30, 2025). When possible, the winner shall attend the NIRMA symposium as a guest. If attending in- person, the winner will receive a certificate on stage at the Symposium, winner must be present to accept award certificate. The winner is not required to attend the Symposium to be eligible for the award.
Attendance at the NIRMA Symposium is a great networking and educational opportunity for the winner.
*In the event the winner is unable to attend the Symposium, only the total amount of the scholarship ($1000) and a NIRMA membership will be awarded.
No cash equivalent will be awarded for the registration and/or other items.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the NIRMA Scholarship you must:
• Be in a graduate program or accepted into a graduate school program by Fall 2025.
• The graduate program must be in an accredited university in the United States.
• The graduate program must be in a discipline that could reasonably lead to a
career in records/information management.

Application Process
Applications will be accepted starting February 3, 2025.
THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT ALL MATERIALS IS March 17, 2025.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
• Application.
• Submit unofficial transcripts for your graduate study or submit your acceptance letter to your graduate program if you are a new student.
• Original Essay.

Essay Criteria
ESSAY TOPIC:
The nuclear industry is in a period of growth, with technological advances such as Small Modular Reactors, and the benefits of reliable, carbon-free power. Explain how records and information management professionals play a role in supporting the nuclear industry and
nuclear power generation.
Some ideas include but are not limited to: document control (versioning and distribution), configuration management, meeting the licensing requirements of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, supporting business operations.
ESSAY QUALITY:
• The essay must be an original piece, it may not be written by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
• Citation of sources is required.
• Spelling and grammar are important and can impact the score of the applicant.
• Essay must address the essay topic and have a clear main idea that is well developed and well-organized throughout the piece.
ESSAY LENGTH AND FORMATTING:
• Applicant name must be at the top
• 800 minimum- 1200 maximum words in length
• References page does not count toward word count
• Double spaced
• Submit as a PDF
